Miss Ling, a dear and determined elderly English friend who lived on the same island as us for a great many years, believed strongly in all things natural and medicinal; she was often seen swimming in her birthday suit on an early morning in the bay and followed up with a strong cup of tea, infused occasionally with a hint of rum.
She would remind me to smell the ocean breeze. “Bottle that,” she would say “and you have something special.”
Nutty idea I thought to myself, until few months ago as I walked my dogs down our beach path and the smell of the ocean mingled with the Casaurina tree’s. Maybe not so nutty after all.
